Within this theme of decolonisation, the corpus reflects the diversity of films preserved by various film libraries: activist films made by collectives in support of independence movements, amateur films capturing the excitement of the moment and the jubilation of independence, but also the maintenance of post-independence social hierarchies, documentaries made with the benefit of several decades of hindsight and questioning the state of the post-colonial world... This topic brings together films with different and sometimes opposing perspectives, showing both the stages of decolonisation and the persistence of the political and economic structures of colonialism.
