Normandie Images
In 1986, Normandie Images created the “Mémoire filmique” (Film Heritage archive), which seeks to recover and share the region’s moving image heritage by preserving and distributing “unreleased” films (that were not originally intended for screening through professional audiovisual networks).
These films, which were mainly created by amateur film-makers from the 1920s onwards, trace the history of the region’s culture, sports, tourism, society and economy. They also quite simply portray people’s everyday lives at the time.
Over 6,000 reels of film in a range of formats (9.5 mm, 8 mm, Super 8, 16 mm, 35 mm) are stored onsite in special preservation facilities, under deposit and rights transfer contracts. These films can be viewed on the memoirenormande.fr website. They are also widely studied and showcased in current audiovisual productions and various cultural events (exhibitions, film concerts, conferences, etc.).
