Image'Est - Pôle régional de l'image en Grand Est
Founded in 2009, IMAGE’EST is an association of audiovisual professionals from the Grand Est region, which carries out a range of activities via three units with complementary roles.
The Screening Unit helps to screen documentaries and short films created in the region, and assists talented film-makers to circulate their work so the general public can discover them.
As the accredited Image Education Unit for the Lorraine area, IMAGE’EST aims to pass on the culture of films and moving pictures to children from a very early age.
The Heritage Unit collects, preserves and digitises the film, audiovisual and pictorial heritage of the Grand Est region, with a particular focus on the Lorraine and Champagne-Ardenne areas. This ensures that the region’s memories can be showcased and handed down to future generations, through an extensive collection of around 15,000 films and over 1.2 million photographs.
As part of its heritage activities, IMAGE’EST also supports local residents, associations, public authorities and companies that wish to (re)discover certain aspects of their history. The inhouse team shares their skills and know-how and provides access to equipment including two film scanners that can digitise all types of film, from 8 mm to 35 mm.
Since 2023, IMAGE’EST has been jointly running the “Cinémathèque(s) du Grand Est” project with another association, MIRA. The project aims to develop audiovisual heritage activities throughout the region, in order to enrich regional collections and discover new unseen treasures.
The head office of IMAGE’EST is in Epinal, and the association has two offices in Nancy and Reims (since September 2023).
